Diary

Tuesday 12th

Couldn't resist taking a walk through the vines. The fresh breeze, the crispy sun and the fruity smell of ripening grapes just lifted me right up. Blissful and relaxing on the mind and on the body. And I hadn't even tasted the wine yet.

At 11 am, I sat by the brook and watched the children help their father transfer the cows from one field to another. A bit of variety ensures good quality milk I heard father say.

3 pm. After watching Marie-Paule preparing her typical 'charentaise' recipe and serving her guests, I also tasted some of the blanquette which was put aside for me. Food which is made with natural farm products just seems to taste so much better than the rest. I'm sure it's doing my body lots of good too.

9 pm. It has begun to dawn on me that the beauty of the country here lies in the very large wide open spaces. The quietness is sublimely restful. I think I could spend a whole week here with Marie-Paule and her sister Nathalie. Tomorrow, I will visit some of the local natural heritage such as the famous roman thermal baths of Chassenon. Another splendid walk in the country that will be.
